The Argentine Ambassador Ana Laura Cachaza and her assistant Nicolas Vidal visited Dundalk recently on the invitation of Dundalk Chamber. The purpose of the visit was to deepen the ties between Dundalk and Argentina.
The Ambassador had a busy morning meeting several companies involved in Manufacturing and in services. She stated afterwards that she was hopeful that trade in both directions could be increased.
She inquired into the impact that Brexit was having on Dundalk as a border town. Paddy Malone, PRO explained that the Windsor Accord had successfully addressed the issues with Trade but not with services.
Hanna McDonnell (Vice President) and Paddy Malone explained that both Dundalk and Newry Chambers had and will continue to encourage trade between the two parts of the island.
The Ambassador talked about the strong connections with Ireland in particular the importance of Admiral William Browne in securing their independence from Spain. Paddy also pointed Macalister, who plays for Liverpool has family in North Dublin.
The Ambassador went on to say that there are third level student exchange programmes available and would encourage Irish students to consider this opportunity.
This visit is one of several planned for the year to assist Dundalk businesses in identifying new markets, customers and suppliers.
