SEEK Urban Arts Festival kicks off this weekend and excitement is building as we eagerly await the arrival of acclaimed street artists from around the world. Dundalk will be awash with colour and creativity during this week-long celebration of art and culture!

This year’s chosen themes and invited artists have been announced and it’s an exciting line-up; the mythological theme of The Morrigan will be explored by L7Matrix from Brazil; Edward the Bruce by Bublegum from Spain; Peter Rice by French duo Monkeybird; Industrial Heritage by Drogheda based artist Artur ONER, and Cúchulainn by returning artist Mister Copy.

The hugely popular children’s creative spray-painting workshops will take place from 11am – 3.30pm at Market Square on Saturday, they are free of charge but booking, via the seekdundalk.ie website, is essential. The Creative Spark Mobile FabLab will be there also, and it will be a drop-in event, offering the opportunity for children to creative!

The schedule of free festival guided walking tours start from Monday 3rd of June and can also be booked on the website, this is a great way to participate in the festival and see some of the artists working in real time.

Organisers are also delighted to announce that we have teamed up with Mo Chara, and The Bartender/ Smashers to create two exciting strEAT tour evening experiences, full details and booking options are available on the festival website.

Town Centre Commercial Manager, Martin McElligott said “I’m excited to see how this year’s artists embrace and interpret the themes we’ve chosen from Dundalk’s rich history and heritage, reawakening these incredible stories and bringing them to life in the heart of the town centre.

“The SEEK Urban Arts Festival has a special place in the hearts of local people, they are really invested in the murals and the stories behind the artwork created each year. The murals also captivate the attention of visiting tourists, active retired groups, societies and associations who have all enjoyed one of our famous walking tours. The murals have become a tangible tool with which to tell Dundalk’s unique story.

“It’s so important to highlight that none of this is possible without sponsorship and support. It has been incredible to work with our loyal project partners Creative Spark and Louth County Council, and alongside our longstanding sponsors Colourtrend Paints. This year’s festival is also kindly sponsored by Creative Ireland, The Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media, Fáilte Ireland, Dundalk Credit Union, Hire Direct, Don Keating, Mo Chara, and McAteers The Good Food House.”
