Dundalk Tennis, Badminton & Squash Club is hosting a Junior International Tennis Federation Competition (ITF), from this Saturday, July 29th to Friday, August 4th in the Club’s facilities at The Ramparts, Dundalk thanks to sponsorship and support from Louth County Council, Fyffes, Dundalk Bids and Dundalk Tourist Office.
The Junior ITF circuit comprises players from around the world competing for world ranking points whereby their top six tournaments are taken into account.
This is an event that will bring together mixed junior competitors from around the world including their coaches and family members. Each of the events will include a qualifying event and a main draw event for the boys and girls. Each of the qualifying events will contain 48 players and the main draw will have 32 competitors.
The winner of the Dundalk Junior ITF event will achieve 30 world ranking junior points that will go towards their overall end of year ITF Junior World Ranking. These ranking points will also help players compete in the Junior Grand slams of Wimbledon, U.S. Open, French Open & the Australian Open.
The ITF Junior Circuit has been home to the world’s most famous tennis athletes including John McEnroe, Bjorn Borg, Pat Cash, Andre Agassi, Gabriela Sabatini, Stefi Graf, Martina Hingus, Rodger Federer, Andy Murray, Raphael Nadal, Novak Djokovic and Stan Warwrinka.
The ITF Junior Circuit has grown over the years progressing from 9 events in 6 countries in 1977 to over 400 tournaments in 114 countries. In addition to national players the Club is expecting 500 plus international attendees to Dundalk for this event.
