The Birches come out in support of Strictly Come Boxing 2011

As this year’s Strictly Come Boxing titans gear up for their imminent training sessions, which promises to be no walk in the park, The Birches Alzheimer Day Care Centre speak of their delight to be associated with this event once again. The Birches has expressed its gratitude to the Chamber of Commerce and all the participants for selecting their service as beneficiary for some of the proceeds that will be raised at the event, on Friday the 11th of March in the Fairways Hotel.

“The funds raised through last year’s Strictly Come Boxing event went towards ensuring we could maintain the alternative therapies and activities we provide to our clients,” said Mary Gaughran, honorary secretary of The Birches. “We wouldn’t be able to sustain our services, only for the generosity of the people and businesses in North Louth.”

The Birches celebrated its tenth year in operation last year and has extended its work by opening a new unique service; A Home to Home Overnight Intermediate Care facility. The Birches is partially funded by the Department of Health through the HSENE and depends on the fundraising by people of North Louth to maintain the standard of care that it provides.

There are 14 branch members who all work on a voluntary basis for The Birches and there is a management committee responsible for the day to day running of the centre. The Birches Alzheimer’s Day Care Centre is open five days a week excluding public holidays, and Mary Gaughran says that any major drop in funding could result in having to scale down their services.

The Birches also provides care for the families of clients. There is a support Group which meets the first Tuesday of every month in The Birches at 7pm and this meeting is open to everyone.

“All at The Birches wishes this year’s Strictly Come Boxing every success,” said Mary Gaughran, honorary secretary of The Birches.

The event will take place on Friday 11th March 2011 in the Fairways Hotel at 7:30pm. Standing tickets costs €20 and seated tickets beside the ring cost €25. For tickets phone Brenda McGeeney on 042 9336343 or email brenda@dundalk.ie
