Dundalk website goes mobile

Your two favourite websites, dundalk.ie and dundalkchamber.ie, now have mobile versions especially tailored for iPhones and Android devices. Noting that a high percentage of mobile traffic to the site was from these devices, our web designers altFIRE Technologies added new code to the site(s) to cater for these users.

The site now autodetects that you are using a smartphone, so you do not need to do anything to use this service. Speaking about the new feature, Paul Scollon of altFIRE Technologies said “We didn’t do anything special for this to happen, we just added new code to autodetect the device. There are plenty of services out there that you can use or redirect the user to in order to make your website mobile- mobeezo, MoFuse, Zinadoo etc. We like to use onbile, it’s simple, it’s free, it does what it says on the tin. All that was required from us was some additional code to decide weather the user required a mobile version of dundalk.ie or the Chamber site, dundalkchamber.ie. “

altFIRE Technologies has previously carried out similar mobile detection on the website belonging to the Dundalk IT Students’ Union – a site that gets over 5000 hits a day, 53% of them mobile users. “Yeah, it seems mobile websites is where things are going – if you don’t cater for these users or at least test your site on mobile devices for compatibility, you’re going to lose customers”, he concluded.
