Award winning Fitzpatrick’s Restaurant on The Cooley Peninsula will be representing Louth at The Annual National Chowder Cook-Off in Kinsale on Sunday April 28th.!
The National Chowder Cook-Off will see 32 top professional restaurant chefs, representing each county in the country, compete for the coveted title of National Chowder Champion, in the grounds of Acton’s Hotel in Kinsale.
Top celebrity chefs including Martin ‘Fishy Fishy’ Shanahan of RTE’s Martin’s Mad About Fish fame; Paul Flynn of The Tannery Restaurant, Waterford, winner of Egon Ronay Restaurant of the Year and Georgina Campbell Chef of the Year; will be present at the event.
In 2012 RTE’s Martin Shanaghan filmed the TV series Surf n Turf in Carlingford and was so impressed with the high standard of cuisine in the area that he made direct contact this month to ensure that there was a representative from the area.
‘We are confident that Fitzpatrick’s Restaurant will represent us superbly. In the very likely event becoming the 2013 champion, Martin has agreed to visit the area to present the award during The Taste of Carlingford Festival on the 12th May where chowder is a central to the festivals programme’ Frances Taylor, Event Coordinator. ‘We have also invited Martin to participate in the live Seafood Cookery Demonstrations that will take place over the festival weekend’.
Members of the public are the judges in the highly anticipated contest, allowing them to sample all chowders from the individual stalls and cast their vote to crown Ireland’s chowder champion 2013.
