The first 6 days of December is going to get you well ready for the 12 days of Christmas if you are out Carlingford direction!
Carlingford’s Choral Festival will kick off the areas fantastic Christmas programme on the first weekend of December with beautiful Christmas songs and choral singing on the mountain and around the town’s Christmas tree in the centre of the village. There are fairs and markets scattered all over the glittery village over the weekend with the annual Christmas Craft Fair running in its traditional location of St Michaels Hall, a Christmas market in the Carlingford Arms and Ghan House hosting “A Celebration of Christmas Craft Fair”.
With a great atmosphere and delicious aromas, the public have an open invitation to stroll around the village and wander in and out of the fairs and markets, possibly stopping for some delicious hot chocolate and marshmallows along the way. Homemade breads and cakes, wooden and ceramic gifts, cute cards, designer jewellery to name but a few of the unique offerings and all fairs are free to the public.

The arrival of Santa in the village on the Sunday will enhance the visitor’s enjoyment and the quaint medieval village promises to look like a winter wonderland with Sieve Foy Mountain in the background and bright Christmas decorations adorning the cobblestoned streets. The man in the red suit is arriving with free gifts for the children and complimentary delicious mulled wine and mince pies for the Mammy & Daddy’s this year! The kiddies will be well entertained with Tommy Trickster roaming the streets followed by a free kiddies disco in Mc Kevitt’s Hotel for a bit of warming up.
In the event that you don’t make it over the weekend, you still have your chance to soak up the atmosphere on the annual Discount Shopping Night on the first Tuesday of December when the towns shops will open from 10.00am -10.00pm. With up to 25% off in some places, the Discount Shopping Day has really become a feature in the region with tourists planning their visits around the date.
So make sure you head to Carlingford the first week of December and soak up the festive atmosphere, different Christmas ideas and great value!
