Giro d’Italia – Road Closure 11th May 2014

As you may be aware from recent media reports, one of cycling’s three prestigious grand cycling tours, Giro d’Italia, is to pass through Co Louth on Sunday 11th May 2014 en route from Armagh to Dublin. This is a marvelous opportunity for the residents of County Louth to witness one of the world’s greatest sporting events right on our door step. It also give us all an opportunity to promote our county to an estimated television audience of over 180 million and to welcome what is expected to be hundreds of overseas visitors who will travel to view the event.

With an event of this scale we do envisage some major traffic restrictions along the main route, with a full Road Closure in place, between the hours of 12.00 noon and 3.30pm on Sunday 11th May 2014.  These timings are approximate only at this time and will be firmed up nearer the date.  There will be no parking allowed along the route through the towns and villages from 8.00am to 3.30pm.

During the closure there will be limited locations where it will be possible to cross over the route intermittently and the proposed locations are listed below.

The route includes the Armagh Road into Dundalk (R177), the R132 from the Lisdoo Junction through the centre of Dundalk, Clanbrassil Street, Crowe Street, Francis Street, Park Street, Hill Street, Old Dublin Road. Passing through Castlebellingham, Kilsaran, Dunleer, Monasterboice and into Drogheda, North Road, Georges Street, Bridge of Peace and Old Dublin Road.
