Dundalk Stadium launches its’ series of floodlit Friday night meetings this coming Friday 23rd September. Friday 23rd September heralds the commencement of the inaugural winter series at Dundalk Stadium. Racing will take place at Dundalk every Friday evening between September 23rd 2011 and March 30th 2012 (except December 30th 2011) following approval by Horse Racing Ireland for 14 new fixtures to be staged throughout the winter months.
Emma Meehan, Sales & Marketing Manager of Dundalk Stadium said: “We are looking forward to the start of the season and are delighted to be in a position to provide an extension to the flat racing programme in Ireland with the introduction of the inaugural ‘winter series’ at Dundalk Stadium. It allows us to showcase both sports every Friday evening whilst continuing to offer great value for a night at the Stadium. The introduction of an additional 14 fixtures is fantastic news for the racing industry at large as Dundalk will continue to provide a safe and consistent racing surface throughout our increasingly harsh winters.” Dundalk Stadium has also announced a trial of 25 minute intervals between races on the all weather track commencing on Friday evening 14th October and will continue for seven meetings through to the 25th November. The reduced 25 minute interval will apply to four races on each seven race card. The following times have been agreed for Dundalk: 6.45pm, 7.10pm, 7.35pm, 8.00pm, 8.30pm, 9.00pm & 9.25pm (There will be a 6.15pm start if there is a divide). The idea arose from consultation with racing’s stakeholders who felt that reduced time between races could improve the race-day experience, particularly for relative newcomers to the sport. Jim Martin, Manager of Dundalk said: “We are delighted to give this initiative a trial in Dundalk. The idea is that there will be more action and a quicker turn around between races which should be good for the atmosphere on course. Our Friday evening horse race meetings will continue to be followed by greyhound racing so there will be plenty of action for our customers to enjoy. Later in the year, we also intend interspersing greyhound racing with horse racing to showcase an exciting new approach to racing at Dundalk.”
