St. Patrick’s Day Launch unveils 2018 Parade and Fringe events

Dundalk’s success and Dream Big attitude is being celebrated in this year’s Dundalk St.Patrick’s Day Parade.

Parade Sponsor Dundalk Credit Union, alongside the organising Committee and associate sponsors joined with this year’s Grand Marshall, internationally renowned musician Zoe Conway, in the atmospheric venue of the Oriel Centre, Dundalk Gaol on Thursday evening to celebrate the unveiling of the 2018 St Patrick’s Day Parade theme and programme of events.

The 2018 St Patrick’s Day Parade is fortunate to have a main sponsor in Dundalk Credit Union, currently celebrating its 50th anniversary and the inspiration for the Parade’s ‘Dream Big’ theme.

Longwalk Shopping Centre, Louth County Council, Dundalk Chamber of Commerce and Pelican Promotions continue as associate sponsors.

Speaking at the launch Parade Chairperson, David Minto spoke of the vital importance in having Dundalk Credit Union as main sponsor: “As we approach March 17th and look forward to the events of this day, the Parade is a symbol of unity within our community. This would not be possible if it wasn’t for our sponsors, both past and present”.

“I would like to thank Dundalk Credit Union for making this year’s St. Patrick’s Day celebration possible with their generosity.”

The Chairman of Dundalk Credit Union Mr Paddy Donnelly also spoke at the launch saying that “The Board of Directors of Dundalk Credit Union are delighted and honoured to be sponsoring the 2018 St Patrick’s Day Parade in what is the 50th Anniversary year of the Credit Union”

2018 Grand Marshal Zoe Conway, who attended the Parade launch and  who also performed for the gathering spoke of her excitement at being asked to carry out the role and her enthusiasm for the Dream Big theme.

Cllr Maeve Yore, Dundalk Municipal District Council addressed the gathering as did Dundalk Chamber of Commerce President, Michael Gaynor, on the Chambers continued involvement in the Dundalk St Patrick’s Day festivities.

A Special presentation was made to Kim Hearty to mark her commitment and dedication in the vital role she has played in the organisation of the Dundalk St Patrick’s Day Parade over many years.

This year’s Dundalk St Patrick’s Day Parade starts at 1pm and returns to the traditional route of Castletown Road then up through the town’s main thoroughfare right through to Dublin Street. As always, there is a huge interest from groups and businesses in the Parade with all participants being asked to focus on the Dream Big theme. Following the Parade, the Dundalk Credit Union / Pelican Promotions Family Fun Zone opens around the Market Square right into the evening with music, food stalls and kids fun rides.
