Dundalk Chamber welcomes 2040 Plan

Dundalk Chamber welcomes the publication of the National Spatial Strategy. The Plan has been significantly altered following separate representations by Dundalk Chamber and Louth County Council.

Paddy Malone who along with Rodd Bond and incoming President Pat McCormick coordinated the Dundalk lobby said that the Plan will place the M1 corridor and the Drogheda- Dundalk-Newry corridor in the centre of both economic and social planning for the next 50 years.

A lot of time and hard work had gone into this. Initially we were told that the Plan was not going to be altered but the sheer logic and facts we brought to the table gave us hope and then expectation that we were going to succeed and win. This will mean continued investment in infrastructure and future Foreign Direct Investment projects. It means that our young people will have greater opportunities to live and work locally.

Michael Gaynor President stated that the area has much to offer. Dundalk has over 2.6million people within an hour’s drive including all of Dublin and Belfast. No other location can offer over 1 million with the exception of Dublin and Drogheda. Our broadband, universities. 3 airports and 3 seaports, road and rail network plus water and sewage facilities mean we can expand NOW.
