Dundalk FC to get full Civic & Public Reception in front of thousands

The extraordinary success of Dundalk FC over the past three seasons is set to be celebrated with a massive Civic and Public Reception in the Dundalk Town Centre on Saturday, November 26th.

Players, Management and the club representatives will be honoured with a Civic Award from Dundalk Municipal District at an event set to take place in front of what organisers expect will be an attendance of thousands.

Members of Dundalk Municipal District along with Dundalk BIDs have been in talks with Dundalk FC in relation to selecting a suitable date, with all agreed that this historic occasion should take place on the same day as the start of the town’s Christmas ‘Frostival’ celebrations including the Christmas Jumper Record Attempt and the switching on of the Town Centre illuminations.

Making the announcement that many Dundalk FC supporters have been waiting for, Cllr Mark Dearey, Chair of the Dundalk Municipal District Committee said “It gives me immense pleasure to announce that we will celebrate the success of Dundalk FC and their contribution to the life of the town by holding a Civic and Public Reception in the heart of the Town on Saturday evening, November 26th.

We will honour our team and manager as well as the clubs representatives, staff and volunteers, in front of the people who have supported them through thick and thin.”

“Dundalk FC has, through its success, brought so much pride to our Town through their achievements and style of football in Ireland and now across Europe. This Reception will allow us all the opportunity to offer our thanks and to wish the team even greater success in Europe this season!

Dundalk FC General Manager, Martin Connolly has welcomed the announcement. “We are delighted with this formal recognition of what the club have achieved and done for Dundalk. We are greatly looking forward to what will be a celebration for all our supporters and everyone associated with the club”

The Dundalk FC Reception takes place on Saturday November 26 at 5pm and will be followed by the turning on of the new Christmas lights.

Martin McElligott, Dundalk Town Centre Manager, Dundalk BIDS, released the following statement:

I am absolutely thrilled that Dundalk FC is to be honoured with a Public & Civic Reception in Dundalk Town Centre on Saturday November 26th.

Dundalk FC and Dundalk BIDS have been in discussions in the past few months in relation to an event at which the people of this town and fans beyond can come together and thank not only the Players  but the Management  and the all those who play a role at Oriel Park.

It is also extremely appropriate that Dundalk BIDs will join with the Dundalk Municipal District Committee in honouring the Club with the highest honour it can bestow. Obviously, training schedules, fixtures etc took priority but it is fantastic that we now have a date set for what is sure to be an historic celebration for Dundalk and a huge ‘Thank You’ to Dundalk FC.

What Dundalk FC has achieved in the past three years is the stuff that dreams are made of yet we have been lucky enough to witness these dreams become reality. They are an inspiration to us all, showing what teamwork, positivity, determination and effort can do.

I hope that on Saturday, November 26th as many people as possible – fans of all ages – will join in what we hope will be a fantastic and momentous celebration. Let’s show not only the country but Europe and indeed beyond that there is a mighty army of fans ready to support, follow, celebrate and most of all, thank Dundalk FC.
