Crafty Participant to Step into the Ring

Another participant to take up the Strictly Come Boxing Challenge 2011 is Craft Butcher McArdle Meats’ Meat Processor John Ormenisan. Organised by the Dundalk Chamber of Commerce in association with The Birches Alzheimer Day Care Centre, Strictly Come Boxing is back for the second year running and is all about bringing local businesses together in a fun and exciting way for a good cause.

Busy limbering up for the big event on March 11, John says he is pleased to be involved in the event, not only for fitness reasons but also as he believes in supporting local charities and would like to work with charities in the future.

Having attended four training sessions to date, John admits that he is not as unfit as he thought he was. “The first training session was tough, but I think I have adapted to them well,” says John. He puts his quick ability to settle into the training down to the fact that when he was younger he participated in Free Fighting. This sport is similar to wrestling, with the small difference that the objective of Free Fighting is to immobilise your opponent without using physical blows like in boxing.

A family man, John is a key member of staff at McArdle Meats’ Clanbrassil Street store. “I’m receiving great support from everyone at McArdle Meats, at all of our three stores in Dundalk and Dublin. Ticket sales are up as a result and I am really looking forward to the fight night and to entertaining my colleagues! I am quietly confident that I will do them proud, however, in the end we are all winners and I want to wish all my competitors the best of luck for the big night.” On the night, John will also be supported by his wife and two daughters who will be there to cheer him on.

Strictly Come Boxing 2011 will take place on the 11th March 2011 in the Fairways Hotel at 7:30pm. Standing tickets costs €20 and a seated ring side tickets cost €25; these can be purchased at the Dundalk Chamber of Commerce or the Fairways Hotel. Tickets are selling fast and those hoping to attend the event are encouraged to contact Brenda McGeeney at the Chamber on 042 9336343 or email brenda@dundalk.ie
