New Dundalk Christmas tree Piece de Resistance of Town Centre Illuminations

Dundalk’s new Christmas Tree stands tall over the Market Square in Dundalk, thanks to Dundalk Tidy Towns and Dundalk BIDS.

The illuminated Christmas Tree compliments the new illuminations now erected throughout Clanbrassil Street, Earl Street and Park Street and was delivered to the Town Centre just before the weekend.

The illuminations are part of a three year plan to Light Up Dundalk at Christmastime and Dundalk Tidy Towns have played a significant role this year via sponsoring the Christmas Tree.

Martin McElligott, Dundalk BIDS Manager said “We have been looking forward so much to seeing the new Tree lit up and becoming a beacon for Dundalk Town Centre. The Tree is now up and lit and I have to give huge thanks to Dundalk Tidy Towns, for sponsoring a focal point in Dundalk’s Christmas.”

Willie Duffy, Chairperson of Dundalk Tidy Towns Committee said he was thrilled to see the brightly illuminated Christmas Tree shine over Dundalk Town Centre.

“We have been more than happy to be involved in sponsoring the new Dundalk Christmas Tree which we hope will be a centrepiece of Dundalk Christmases for many years to come. It has been tremendous to make this possible with Dundalk BIDS and Louth County Council.

“It is, I suppose, a gift from Dundalk Tidy Towns to the people of our town who help and support us in our work throughout the year. I hope as many of these people as possible get to see it and enjoy what we have achieved.”

Cllr Mark Dearey, Chairperson of Dundalk Municipal District Committee, said the new illuminated Christmas Tree is yet another progressive milestone in Dundalk’s Christmas Programme.

“Christmas 2016 is definitely a year to remember for Dundalk at Christmas. We switched on the street illuminations with an historic Dundalk FC team, and now we are celebrating the Icing on Dundalk’s Christmas Cake – our new tree.

“It is on occasions such as this that we have to be proud of what we are all doing to have Dundalk shining its brightest this Christmas, for all of us who live here and those who are visiting.”
