Cavan County Council and Waterford City Council were named the top County and City Councils tonight (09/11/11) at the 8th Annual Excellence in Local Government Awards. Dundalk Town Council was named Town/Borough Council at the event held in association with the Department of Environment, Community and Local Government. Ian Talbot, Chambers Ireland Chief Executive said, “These Awards seek to recognise and encourage local authorities who seek to do better despite tighter budgetary constraints and the wider economic challenges being felt throughout Ireland. ”“Working with the Department of Environment, Community and Local Government, Chambers Ireland contributes to the development of efficient local government in Ireland by highlighting best practice and encouraging local authorities to achieve more for all of their stakeholders.”
Mr. Phil Hogan, T.D., Minister for the Environment, Community and Local Government added, “I am delighted that my Department is associated with Chambers Ireland’s Excellence in Local Government Awards and how they showcase the admirable work that Local Authorities do.
