The Birches, an Alzheimer’s Day Care Centre in Dundalk is pleased to announce its association with the very successful Dundalk Half-Marathon, which will take place on Wednesday, May 4, 2011.
Participants in the Dundalk Half-Marathon are invited to raise funds on behalf of the day care centre and make their run even more worthwhile. Not only would they be achieving personal goals, they would be supporting a very good local charity that has been benefiting families in Dundalk for over 11 years.
This week, The Birches came out in support of the Dundalk Half-Marathon and official launched its opportunity for participants to fundraise.
“The Dundalk Half-Marathon is a great event and we are proud to be associated with it, said Mary Gaughran, honorary secretary, The Birches. “We have great community spirit here in Dundalk and we don’t commend ourselves enough. Having worked with The Birches for 11 years, I’ve personally seen how charitable and good the people of North Louth are. The Birches is very grateful for the support it has received over the years. Fundraising is very tough in the present climate, but every contribution no matter how small is of great benefit to the Birches. The branch, staff and all associated with The Birches wish this years participants every success and we hope to see them at the finishing line on May 4.”
The Birches celebrated its 10th anniversary last year and is partially funded by the Department of Health through the HSENE. The Birches depends on the people of North Louth to maintain its present standard of care. Its new and unique project ‘Home-to-Home Overnight Intermediate Care’ facility was set up in response to the tremendous stress that family carers are under in caring for their loved ones and it is a response for crisis care, not respite care. The Birches branch has rented a home-like four bed roomed bungalow in Dundalk and this project, which is proving to be a great success, is viewed as an extension to the day care service. The overnight service is only for clients attending the day centre and the four nights of care each month is needs based where each client is familiar with both his and her surroundings and the staff, thus ensuring they feel safe and secure.
Why not support The Birches Alzheimer Day Care Centre and its new Home-to-Home Overnight Care facility by selecting them as the charity to fundraise for when you run the Dundalk Half-Marathon the 4th of May?
