MAD Youth Theatre Present “Remote”

Young actors prepares to take stage for their Irish premier of Remote by Stef Smith in the An Tain Arts Centre on Friday 13th and Saturday 14th of March. They can now add a third date to their performance as they will be perform on a one of Irelands National Theatres, The Lyric Theatre in Belfast on the 25th of April.

M.A.D Youth Theatre is buzzing with excitement and look forward to staging their first National Theatre Connections. They are the first theatre company from Dundalk to take part in this prestigious festival and  broke the19 year fast since a Louth theatre company took part. Droichead Youth Theatre performed back in 1999 in the National theatre in London with Eclipsed. M.A.D Youth Theatre is happy to get the opportunity to perform on both An Tain  and The Lyric stage but hope to impress with its own interpretation of the script and get to perform in the National Theatre London.

In this production there are no flashy costumes or heavy make-up in this play, like all MADYT performances (so far) the production is simple, with the use of effective lighting and sound. The focus is on the performers and their ability to transform into their characters and tell their story. The approach was not just about learning the lines and performing them. The young actors went through a process of deconstruction the script to further investigate the story. They spent weeks work-shopping the characters in the story. Discovering the characters history, habits, relationships and more. Character analysis help us  to understand why they do the things they do and how they respond to their environment within the story. This can be challenging but it gives more range to the performance.

Connections is about young people making professional theatre and this will shine through in the performance. Groups are encouraged to take advantage of the group rate – to get a code for a 20 percent discount email

This production is supported by Create Louth and the National Theatre Connections.
