Gold & Silver Paralympic Medallist Eve McCrystal is to be Dundalk’s first ever female Grand Marshall in the St Patrick’s Day Parade, organisers have confirmed today (Friday). The theme of this year’s Parade ‘TEAM Dundalk’ has been inspired by Eve’s phenomenal achievements in Rio alongside numerous Dundalk everyday successes.
St Patrick’s Day Parade Chairperson, David Minto said Eve’s acceptance of the Grand Marshall role in the Parade serves to highlight the importance of a TEAM spirit in Dundalk.
‘‘TEAM’ stands for Together Everyone Achieves More. Eve’s outstanding success in the cycling word is proof that TEAM works. And it’s not just confined to sport – everyday in Dundalk people come together for their Club, for their community, for charity, many of which will be taking part in the Parade with Eve – and it all makes a huge difference to our Town.
‘Of course our sponsors, Fyffes, Louth County Council and Longwalk Shopping Centre are also part of that TEAM Dundalk network.’
Speaking of her prestigious role on March 17th, Eve said: “I am honoured and thrilled to have been invited to be the Grand Marshall in this year’s Dundalk St Patrick’s Day Parade. It’s going to be an unforgettable experience for me in that I get to share it with my children, family, friends etc – all in Dundalk. I am so happy that this year’s Parade theme is TEAM Dundalk and hope to be a good ambassador for that theme.’
The Dundalk St Patricks Day Parade takes place on Friday, March 17th at 1pm. For Parade entry details contact Kim or Chloe in Dundalk Chamber of Commerce at 042 9336343 or certs@dundalk.ie.
