The Eastern-Midlands Regional Waste Office is a public sector office working with local authorities, including Louth County Council, to implement the Regional Waste Plan. As part of our remit, we offer advice and resources to businesses on more environmentally sustainable ways of operating. With the adoption of the Circular Economy package at European level, the efficient use of resources is becoming increasingly important for Irish businesses. We are interested in working with all types of businesses and sectors in the Dundalk and District area.
To this end, we operate through a couple of programmes designed to assist companies in activities such as formulating and implementing environmental policies and exchanging rather than wasting materials that may be useful to other companies, and so, saving on waste and utility bills.
I have attached a brochure for one such programme here, EcoMerit, which is a three year environmental certification programme suitable for any companies with a staff numbering from 5 to 100. Companies availing of this subvented service will receive assistance in a number of areas such as preparing an environmental policy, an analysis of water usage, energy usage and waste management and a plan to streamline these resources. companies also receive assistance in applying for environmental improvement grants, such as SEAI grants.
The EcoMerit Programme is designed to help businesses improve their environmental performance and achieve financial savings. It is simple to implement and maintain and provides an environmental certification. Average cost savings in the first year of certification alone are €8,000. To date, EcoMerit certificate holders have achieved an average annual improvement of 9% in their energy carbon footprints.
