Zoe Conway announced as Grand Marshall for St Patrick’s Day Parade

Internationally acclaimed musician Zoe Conway has been announced as this year’s Grand Marshall for the Dundalk St Patrick’s Day Parade.

Zoe said this week that she was ‘Thrilled and Honoured’ to be invited to take the premier spot in the Dundalk event which gets underway at 1pm on March 17th. “This is so special to me. I’m proud to be from Dundalk and so was absolutely thrilled and honoured to be asked to be Grand Marshall.”

Zoe has earned a well deserved international reputation performing across the globe and sharing the stage with many including Rodrigo Y Gabriella, Riverdance, Damien Rice, Lou Reed and Nick Cave to name but a few.

Zoe admitted it has been a hard secret to keep for a short time. ‘I was asked recently but I only told my parents – now it’s all official and out in the open I can’t wait to get talking to friends and family – I know they’ll all be at the Parade to cheer me and others on’.

The mum of two said she was sure her children are going to be ecstatic and hopes to join last year’s Grand Marshall Eve McCrystal in taking them with her on the Parade Route.

‘I would love to take them with me as Eve did with her children, They’d be over the Moon!’

Zoe felt it is very poignant that she has been invited to be Grand Marshall in he year that the Parade theme is ‘Dream Big Dundalk’ with main sponsors Dundalk Credit Union.

‘I think Dundalk people are known for Dreaming Big as we have so many successes. For my own part Dundalk Credit Union allowed me to Dream Big as they approved my Credit Union Loan to buy my first really good and expensive fiddle, an investment which allowed me to continue along the path I was on.

Her role as Grand Marshall is made more special as this is the year Fleadh Cheoil visits the County. ‘Louth is hosting the biggest international traditional music event and Dundalk is part of that due to its wealth of musicians. It’s another huge Dream Big opportunity. There will be a huge number of people visiting Louth – Drogheda and Dundalk – this summer and I know I’ll be enjoying it and no doubt will be one of many representing Dundalk.

The 2018 St Patrick’s Day Parade Dundalk is sponsored this year by Dundalk Credit Union with Dundalk Chamber, Longwalk Shopping Centre, Pelican Promotions and Dundalk Municipal District Council/Louth County Council.

Closing Date for parade applications is Friday 9th March.
