The School of Health & Science at Dundalk Institute of Technology in joint partnership with Teagasc Ballyhaise Agricultural College, Cavan are hosting an important one day conference entitled ‘Agriculture Education in the North East: Celebration of a Successful Partnership’ at the DkIT Campus, Dundalk on Friday 27th March, 2015.
The aim of the conference is to continue to promote the North East region as a centre of excellence for agriculture education. This conference will showcase the ongoing success of the partnership between DkIT and Teagasc Ballyhaise Agricultural College. This partnership is reflected in over twelve years of collaborative provision of agricultural programmes and during that time has led to the education of a large number of vitally skilled graduates to work in the agriculture and food sector.
The conference will be opened by Minister for Business & Employment, Mr. Ged Nash TD. Conference speakers will include graduates from DkIT programmes who will outline the diverse and rewarding career paths that they have followed. Professor Gerry Boyle, Director of Teagasc will outline the important recent developments in agriculture education. Mr. Michael Hanley, CEO of Lakeland Dairies will provide a high level analysis of the importance of locally educated skilled graduates to industry. Ms. Mairead McGuinness MEP will discuss developments in agriculture policy at an EU level. An overview of the suite of Agriculture programmes jointly provided by DkIT and Teagasc Ballyhaise Agricultural College shall also be provided.
Through their joint engagement with industry, national agencies and policymakers, DkIT and Teagasc Ballyhaise College aim to affirm their ongoing commitment to and multi-level support for the agricultural and food sector in the North East.
