Dundalk to host major International Chess Festival

In 1948, Cecil Parker Glorney, an Irish entrepreneur and first President of Rathmines chess club, launched and endowed a chess tournament to be played between the youth of England, Ireland, Scotland, Wales and other invited countries.

71 years on, the 2019 edition returns to Ireland in July with Squads of 20 from each of the above countries plus France and Netherlands competing for the Glorney (U18 Open), Gilbert (U18 Girls), Robinson (U14 Open) and Stokes (U12 Open) Cups.

You are cordially invited to the opening of the event (and perhaps partake in some friendly games) on the evening of Sunday July 21st, 2019 at the Carrickdale Hotel, Dundalk Co. Louth. Games will be running from the 21st-24th July with up to 300 juniors, seniors and everything in between taking part. We would also welcome any support you could offer in terms of advertising as events which bring up to 1,000 people to Ireland are expensive for our modest means.
